In 1982, Seawind started manufacturing Maricats, 4-5 metre long beachcats. They were extremely popular especially in their native Australia, and over 3000 were sold. Also throughout the '80s, the company purchased exclusive rights for the Seawind 24 from designer (and then builder) Chris Williams, who was moving to the US. Later the company commissioned other designers to extend the Seawind line of catamarans, many of which have been exported. Seawind also makes the Ventura power cats.
In 1997, the factory moved into new 30000 sq ft (2787 sq m) premises, and three years later a similarly sized space was acquired in Wollongong. At that stage, the company launched a boat every 10 days, and was not only hoping to triple this number in 2001, but to produce a boat per day by 2005.
Seawind also produces custom catamarans, for instance the Scott Jutson-designed Formula 40 racer SIMPLY THE BEST, which for some years was the fastest sailing boat in Australia.
Seawind is the largest manufacturer and one of the biggest exporters of cruising catamarans in Australia.
