Pat Patterson, most widely remembered for his Heavenly Twins cruising catamaran, stated in the multihulls business selling Arthur Piver's trimaran plans to home builders around the world. Later, in 1966, together with Derek Kelsall he designed and built his first catamaran ICONOCLAST, using the main hull mould from the trimaran TORIA, in which Derek Kelsall won the 1966 Round Britain Race.

In 1968 Pat Patterson established his design and boat-building business, The Multihull Centre, in Cornwall, UK, and in 1972 introduced the first of the popular Heavenly Twins. Hundreds more of this model were built. Many more cruising designs followed in a long and productive career as designer and builder.

Pat Patterson died in 2004. His designs continue to built at The Multihull Centre and the Heavenly Twins, his earliest success, continue to be widely cruised and admired.

Pat Patterson puctuated his career as a designer with periods of adventurous sailing. While an agent for Arther Piver, he sailed one of these trimarans from Labrador to Scotland with a customer. In the early 1970s he chartered and skipperd his ICONOCLAST, and in 1974 he raced the Round Britain Race in a Heavenly Twins. Marking the 400 year anniversary of Francis Drakes circumnavigation, he sailed one of his Ocean Twins catamarans round the world introducing Mike Golding to long distance sailing enroute. He continued to made long ocean voyages unitl sickness intervened a few months before his death.
