Ron Given specialises in the custom design of powered and sailing catamarans.
His experience as a designer began in 1961, at the age of 26, when he built a Piver trimaran for himself. The first 20 years of his design life also included competing nationally and internationally, mostly in the international A and B catamaran classes, 14 ft Paper Tiger class and several international landyacht classes. In all cases he designed and built his own yachts.
In the late 70s and early 80s he gradually became involved in coastal, then offshore catamarans. Ron Given writes that it was rather easy to design fast boats at this time, but to offer the clients safe catamarans that were reasonably fast took more years of research and development.

- 1961
- Built his first trimaran, a 16 ft (4.9 m) Piver design
- 1963
- Designed and built an 18 ft (5.5 m) trimaran
- 1966
- Designed and built the first Paper Tiger catamaran http://www.papertigercatamaran.org/. The boat became an international class and more that 6000 plans were sold
- 1972
- Designed and built the first Paper Tiger and International B Class Catamaran
- 1978
- Launched TIGRESS, a 36 ft (11 m) high performance coastal catamaran that won the 1983 Coastal Classic
