Hobie Alter

Hobie Alter started making surfboards in his garage in 1950 and later went on to open a surf shop. Built in foam and fibreglass, the light, fast and responsive surfboards were so popular that demand skyrocketed. Hobie boards became an outstanding success.

In 1967 Hobie Alter designed the first Hobie beach catamaran, the Hobie 14. In 1969 the Hobie 16 was introduced and became the most popular catamaran ever. Over 100000 Hobie catamarans are now sailing.
