Dieter Scharping

Dieter Scharping, a professor for yacht construction at Bremen Technical University in Germany, has been building and designing boats for more than 25 years.

His main focus is on larger, one-off custom craft: monohulls, but also three catamarans of 12, 14 and 24 m (39 ft 4 in, 39 ft 11 in and 78 ft 8 in) LOA, and a 10 m (32 ft 9 in) trailerable trimaran. The three catamarans (the two smaller ones were intended for home-building from plans) are made from aluminium, which Scharping believes is easier to build and has price advantages over other materials.
