Bernand Smith
Since the 1950s Bernard Smith has worked in the pursuit of creating the ultimate sailing boat that would be very fast yet stable in all conditions. Early models comprised a single surface sail supported by three buoyant hydrofoils. Later he learned the advantage of inclining the aerofoil.
In 1963, following this breakthrough of design he published an account of his experiments in "The 40-knot Sailboat." This work directly influenced the design of the world sailing speed challenger SAILROCKET.
