Outremer
Outremer catamarans are ocean voyagers, conceived for adventuring yachtsmen who knows what they want from their boat. Strong yet sleek, these craft have all their design priorities set for serious performance blue-water cruising. Hulls are solid glass-fibre and strongly built to endure the stress of sailing a multihull in the oceans. The hulls are long, slender with low hydrodynamic drag, and shaped for speed rather than being optimised for accommodation volume. Daggerboards, rather than fixed keels, ensure excellent windward performance as well as seaworthiness in heavy weather. Low freeboard and well rounded forms of the coach roofs above the hulls and saloon minimise windage. The forward trampoline extends a long way aft, almost to the bridgedeck, reducing overall weight of the boat and improving seaworthiness.
Outremers range from 40 to 64 ft. Some designs are produced in lengthened or lightened versions where performance is even more of a priority. Standard production Outremers are regular transatlantic race winners. The ARC was won by an Outremer in 2000 and again in 2001, and also in 2000 an Outremer 45 won its class in the OSTAR transatlantic single-handed race.
