Targa

 Home-built from plans

Brand:
Tennant
Designed by:
Malcolm Tennant Multihull Design Limited
Description:

The Targa is a large ocean-going version of the Great Barrier Express, and it has the same proven three quarter rig and the basic alloy cross-beamed open wing deck configuration. The Great Barrier Express is fast, but the larger size of the Targa gives it even more startling performance, especially in heavier weather when its increased stability confers much more power and allows it to be driven to the limit.

This larger size also enables more creature comforts to be included in the design. However, the accommodation space is still a couple of long narrow tubes. Nevertheless, it does have a reasonably sized galley, shower and dining table. Construction is in cold moulded ply but the plans can be converted for one of the forms of strip-plank construction. The forward sloping centreboards give optimum hydrodynamic balance but do incur very high torsional loads. Easier to build conventional boards can certainly be fitted as an alternative.
