- Description:
The Spirited 380 is a performance offshore cruiser for home-building. Designer Craig Schionning, himself a builder with over 15 years experience [2007], developed the 'Spirited Assembly System' (SAS). The Spirited 380 kit includes pre-formed lower hulls, produced from moulds in the Spirited Designs factory, plus flat-packed CNC-cut light weight panels for the rest of the hulls and superstructure.
This approach allows the boat to have the flowing lines and sturdiness of a modern production boat, whilst reducing construction time. The system is particularly suited to amateur builders with little or no boat-building experience, as most of the boat is assembled, not built from scratch.
Standard design features include a modern, interactive internal layout with the popular galley-up arrangement, though other layouts may be possible on request.
The deck is well set-up for safe and comfortable sailing: it has walk-through access into the spacious, covered cockpit, flat decks forward, and a flat work area surrounding the mast, as well as wide side decks.
The catamaran performs well up- and downwind. Handling is easy, and there is excellent visibility from the two helm stations. The light weight, good bridgedeck clearance, and fine bows make for smooth sailing.
The Spirited 380 has enjoyed popularity since the launch of the first boat in 2005. Two years later, 20 kits have been ordered, and customers are very impressed with the progress they are making and with the support from Spirited Designs.
The catamaran is also produced under licence by a professional yard in Australia.
