The Petter 55 is a custom, fast and comfortable cruising catamaran based on an earlier Erik Lerouge design (Maia 160).
The performance aspirations for this boat dictate a low-displacement hull, and much work was invested in achieving a lightweight construction. For the hulls epoxy/vinylester sandwich with Airex foam core is used while a Divinycell PVC foam core was chosen for the superstructure and other lower stressed areas. The hull partitions are vacuum formed and the floors built with honeycomb panels. She has carbon rigging and a rotating wing mast. A U-shaped boom makes reducing sail easy. The Petter 55 is equipped with an extensive wardrobe of Spectra sails.
The Petter 55 is optimized for fast sailing in summer conditions in the Mediterranean and consequently, this boat performs well in light and variable winds and in short, choppy seas. She is a very responsive boat and not intended for single-handed sailing.
The interior of this catamaran is well-lit and well ventilated with a sober, resolutely modern finish. Cabin linings are in foam covered by microfiber (Ultrasuede); wood paneling is in maple veneer. A roomy saloon has table seating for 12 and provides panoramic views. The galley is well equipped with features and appliances, including oven, refrigerator and freezer.
