Petter 50
- Brand:
- Petter
- Designed by:
- Erik Lerouge Yacht Designs
- Description:
The Petter 50 is a comfortable performance cruiser of distinctive and sometimes futuristic appearance. The saloon windows, for example, are reminiscent of 'wasps eyes.' Her upwardly curved composite fore beam is characteristic of Eric Lerouge designs. Overall, the Petter 50 is a beautiful catamaran with many thoughtful and detailed design features. Not surprisingly she is expensive.
A light hull and an efficient rig allow the Petter 50 to accelerate rapidly and reach high speeds under sail. She has daggerboards, a pivoting carbon mast and carbon boom. An electric winch positioned at the foot of the mast assists sail handling, and the instrumentation and electronics systems are extensive.
There are two helm stations on the Petter 50, so the helmsperson is always positioned to windward with excellent visibility, though not somewhat exposed to wind and spray. However, the cockpit, generally, is very well sheltered.
The Petter 50 is very attractively finished inside and out. The cockpit floor is teak as are the transom steps. The railings on the saloon roof are varnished wood.
The inside of the Petter 50 was designed by Jean-Michel Ducancelle and is modern and tasteful. The saloon floor is in synthetic wood veneer. The table has seating for 12, and the whole cabin is spacious, with panoramic views through the large windows. The chart table has a laptop compartment rather than storage space for printed charts. The hulls are roomy, well ventilated and uncluttered. The interior is highly customizable, including the cabin headroom.
