- Description:
The Lagoon 440 was introduced to fit between the 410 and 470 models. Targeting ocean cruisers seeking for ultra comfort and good performance on the one hand, and charter holiday makers on the other, the boat is available in an owner's version and a charter version - in the former, the starboard hull is one big cabin with sofa, desk and all other amenities.
The main distinguishing feature of the Lagoon 440 is its flybridge and the rigid bimini. There are three cockpit areas: a forward cockpit for lounging and enjoying the views in good weather, an aft cockpit with table, shaded by the bimini, and finally the flybridge, an elevated cockpit with all sail controls. The flybridge is set up for short-handed sailing. For crewed charter, the sailing operation could thus be conducted out of the way of social activities on board; however, the flybridge has bench seating for six and could easily become another favourite place to relax and share some of the excitement of sailing.
There is a forward-facing chart table in the saloon, which can be equipped with autopilot, joystick and even a second set of engine controls, as well as all other electronics.
Access to the water via the port stern section was further improved in this model, and there is an aft passageway that allows crossing from one side to the other without disturbing those sitting in the cockpit.
Part of the design brief was to achieve better performance and modernising the lines whilst retaining the Lagoon 'look.' Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prévost have improved speed potential and limited pitching with a higher 'gull wing' bridgedeck underwing form which has the added benefit of creating more space for access from the saloon to accommodation in the hulls.
