- Description:
The Lagoon 410 is a roomy and stylish blue water capable cruiser that has sold with outstanding success to charter operators as well as private owners. Introduced in 1997, she supercedes the earlier Lagoon 42. Like the earlier boat, the 410 was drawn by Van Pethegem and Lauriot-Prévost, however production for all Lagoons is now in France, whereas the former model was built under contract by TPI in the US.
Typically Lagoons are built to a very high and consistent standard, have classy looks, and are sea kindly. Along with their spacious hulls, easy handling and value for money they are attractive to the charter market. To develop this appeal, the 410 comes with a much larger bridgedeck saloon than her predecessor. The saloon has vertical windows that allow for all-over standing headroom and reduce the greenhouse effect caused when sun shines through sloping glass. The beam of the newer design is increased by 6 in (0.15 m) for better stability and more deck space. Another measure taken to make her motion very gentle in a seaway was to increase the fullness of the extremities of the hulls (prismatic coefficient) which has reduced pitching. Though the sail area remains the same, the handling has also been somewhat simplified with a smaller mainsail and larger genoa.
Several configurations are available for the accommodation. The charter versions usually have large state rooms fore and aft in both hulls, each with large en-suite heads compartments with wash basin and shower towards the center. A very large bridgedeck saloon with dining area, navigation station and galley, has outstanding all round visibility through the curved array of vertical cabin windows.
Lagoons are built in a carefully controlled process that includes vacuum resin infusion, ensuring optimum laminate consistency. Vinylester resins are generally used for high strength and osmosis resistance. Lagoons carry a ten-year osmosis guarantee which is admired in the industry.
The Lagoon 410 was upgraded to the Lagoon 410 S2 with several improvements over the original model. These include a 'galley up' configuration, more standard equipment, all primary sail controls being led back to the cockpit and an electric winch.
A version of the Lagoon 410 S2 - the Lagoon 410 S2-E, is available with twin electric drive systems (12 HP STI 74 "Electric Wheels" developed by Solomon Technologies Inc., Florida, US). See also our feature article on electric drives.
