Farrier F-9A
Home-built from plans
- Brand:
- Farrier
- Designed by:
- Farrier Marine
- Yard(s):
- TPI Composites Inc.
- Description:
The F-9A is a high performing multihull for home-building with sufficient amenities and accommodation for longer range cruising. This design is a forerunner of the factory-produced OSTAC 31 and Corsair 31, with which many parts are interchangeable. Plans for aft cockpit and aft cabin versions are available.
Aft cabin models have 4-5 berths and standing headroom in the galley and table seating for 4. A separate heads area forward can be curtained off. The forepeak can be a cosy double or single bunk.
Early sea trials showed the F-9 to have a 12% speed advantage over the highly acclaimed cruiser/racer, the F-27 that was first launched in 1985. In 1991, the same year as it was introduced, the F-31 was judged Australian Sailboat of the Year and in 1992 an F-31 won the bi-annial Australian Offshore Multihull Championships.
The F-9AX is a roomier model with a wider centre hull. The F-9R is a higher performing model, lighter and with more sail area.
