Farrier F-39
Home-built from plans
- Brand:
- Farrier
- Designed by:
- Farrier Marine
- Description:
The F-39 is an evolution of the F-36 and has been developed to meet a rising interest in larger crusing trimarans encountered by the designer. A 'third generation' folding system appears for the first time on this boat, to allow easy docking in narrow berths and passage through canals. The new mechanism is especially rugged and reliable and makes for a beam reduction to 15 ft 9 in (4.8 m). A towing width of 3 m can be achieved by demounting the floats.
Like all Farrier designs, the F-39 is a stunning performer that is also exceptionally well behaved and can be equally well raced or cruised at length and at leisure. Though a very fast boat she has a conservative sail area for her huge stability, making her safe and easy to handle. A rotating wing mast is standard, as is synthetic rigging and carbon fibre chain plates. The floats are designed to resist immersion on the windward bow and to throw back spray, ensuring a dry ride when at speed in windy conditions.
There is standing headroom the main cabin, though the cabin height is low, minimising the performance penalty from windage.
Building plans contain options for five main models; the F39 Sport Cruiser with centre and aft cockpit versions; the F-39R Sport Racer, also with centre and aft cockpit options, and the F-39ST Supertri. The Supertri has a fully vacuum-bagged epoxy/carbon construction and a rotating carbon wing mast. Because of the advanced composite structures specified in the plans, they are only recommended for experienced builders.
