- Description:
The F-25C is a very high-performance boat, which was available to home builders as a bare hull kit (the 25C kits have been discontinued, but have been replaced by the F-82R plans - kits are not available for this successor of the F-25C). Based on the earlier F-25A, which was entirely home-built from plans, the factory-produced 25C hulls and decks were built from carbon sandwich, using advanced methods to achieve the lightest possible sailing weight. Owners buying the bare hull kit and assembling and finishing it themselves were able to sail a top performing racing boat at reasonable cost. Hulls and decks are vacuum-bagged carbon and epoxy sandwich with aircraft-grade balsa core. They were then painted with a thin layer of vinyl ester primer, which was used instead of heavier gelcoat, and oven-cured.
The highly optimised rig includes a rotating mast of carbon fibre with a wing section and a retractable bow pole.
Apart from its impressive racing track record the F-25C is docile enough to enjoy as a fast cruiser and the rig is easily downsized accordingly. The interior is roomy enough to sleep four and the 'poptop' above the companionway gives an area of standing headroom in the cabin. Aft of the cockpit is a large 'swim step' area, providing easy access.
