- Description:
Introduced in 2000, the Dragonfly 1200 meets a growing market interest in larger cruising trimarans, a demand that is particularly fuelled by boat owners of conventionally-sized trailer-sailer trimarans that wish to upgrade to a similar boat with more cruising amenities. When built, the DF 1200 was the biggest ever production folding trimaran. With a similar system used on their smaller models, but specially developed at Quorning for the 39 footer, the floats can be power-winched alongside the main hull to facilitate handling and berthing in marinas. The 28ft 3in (8.6 m) beam, which provides huge stability at light displacement for high performance sailing, is reduced by half to conventional monohull proportions for mooring.
The DF 1200 is a blue water cruiser with outstanding ease of handling and excellent performance. She readily tacks through 76 degrees (38 degrees off true wind), is set up for single-handing and is capable of reaching at speeds above 20 kts.
As with all Dragonfly models the cabin design receives wide acclaim for design excellence and quality of build. Teak joinery gives the cabin a warm and refined feeling. The ingenious design and meticulous execution in providing accommodation amenities is oustanding, and puts the Dragonfly 1200 in a luxury class.
Dragonfly 1200 won the 'Boat of the Year 2001' award from Cruising World magazine for the best cruising multihull.
