- Description:
The Dazcat 14 is a fast ocean cruiser, designed for single-handed sailing, short-handed racing and family cruising. Her high power-to-weight ratio, sleek lines and weight distribution enable her to reach high average speeds over a wide range of conditions.
The balance of hull volume and shape, with the weight kept low and central, reduces pitching and improves comfort and speed. The 17 m (55 ft 9 in) rig is positioned to prevent the mainsail from over-powering and driving the bow into the water. This allows for a larger area of foresail when reaching, increasing power in lighter winds.
Single line reefing leads back to the cockpit, allowing the mainsail to be easily raised and lowered. Foresails include a self-tacking staysail jib, roller-furling Genoa, and masthead reacher, which are also controlled from the cockpit. The raised twin wheels, positioned behind the canopy, give the helm excellent all-round vision.
Low aspect ratio skegs moulded into the sterns are balanced with forward 'canard' daggerboards. This balances the centre of effort with the centre of lateral resistance, keeping the helm light, even in difficult conditions.
Motor drive is provided by twin 27hp Yanmar engines, with centrally mounted fixed shafts and folding props, giving speeds of 12 knots under engine power.
She is available either with a bridgedeck, or in an open deck version.
