Description:

The Cat2fold is a 36 ft folding catamaran with a proprietary interlocking X-beam system. It can be folded on the water with masts in upright position, and it will fit in a standard 35 ft marina berth. It can be towed without special permits.

The catamaran has a permanent hard bridgedeck that lowers between the hulls.

Accommodation is for four in the hulls; there is also an optional cabin over the wing deck for additional accommodation and/or weather protection.

Type:
Cruiser-racer
Multihull type:
Catamaran
Construction:

Hulls: fibre glass with foam core

Interlocking X-beams: made of carbon fibre and manufactured with vacuum bag and infusion process.

Sails and rigging:
  • Bi-plane rig. Twin carbon fibre 38 ft masts with wishbone boom (similar to a windsurfer rig).
  • Optional single jib sail can be used on leeward mast.
  • Cat2fold can also be supplied with a single 56 ft mast for racing (this configuration still folds with mast in upright position).
Deck layout and gear:
  • Self stayed rotating masts.
  • Wishbone booms controlled with 4:1 purchase and without need for winches.
  • Sails can be controlled either in tandem or independently. Reefing is accomplished from a safe position on the hard deck next to the mast tabernacle.
Keels, boards and rudders:

Two swing-up rudder blades.
Two dagger boards

Accommodation:

Starboard hull: Companionway contains settee aft; this is convertible to 48 in (122 cm) wide double berth. Amidships the galley with cooking stove and sink with pressurised fresh water faucets. Forward compartment houses guest cabin with large single berth and small wash basin.

Port hull: Companionway with 48 in (122 cm) double berth aft, amidships hanging lockers, miscellaneous storage, and water desalinator. Forward compartment has full-size standing shower, pressurized on-demand hot water and ‘Air-Head’ composting head.

Systems - Power, Navigation:
  • Twin 9.9 Yamaha outboards on proprietary swing mount that brings motors over hull transom deck for service or storage.
  • Separate electrical and 12V -6A charging systems from engines within each hull, but either can transmit power to the opposite hull if necessary.
  • Each hull also has a retractable 80W solar panel for additional DC power.
Performance and handling:

A very easy to sail, safe boat for short handing or solo sailing. Points exceptionally well with bi-plane rig, will not stall in irons, and unlike most cats, tacks as easily as a dinghy without any sail adjustment.
