Description:

The Alfresco is a cruising catamaran reminiscent of many models found in charter fleets around the world. Recent trends in these craft are for compound curves and complex hull shapes that are better suited to series production from a female mould than to one-off construction. However, Malcolm Tennant has translated this sophisticated style into somewhat simpler lines that still can be made with home-build methods.

The standard interior layout is optimised for charter use with shower/head units centrally located in each hull and with the galley up in the bridgedeck saloon. The keels are fixed, low aspect ratio ones for ease of handling and to provide protection for the sail drives. Other cabin layout and keel options are also viable with this design.

The standard sail plan is relatively conservative with a small, easily handled, roller-furling, non-overlapping headsail. If more performance is required then a more generous sail plan can be substituted. Mast head asymmetrical spinnakers and light weather reachers can be flown from the bows utilising a twin sheet- twin preventer system, or a semi permanent "prod" can be set off the forebeam.

Construction in strip plank cedar or Durakore with ply-foam-ply bulkheads. It can also be built in strip plank foam for the hulls with vacuum-bagged flat panels for the rest.
